Tan duck ages with character — every crease and fold records where the fabric bent most, and the fade is original Carhartt wear.

Model and history

The Detroit (J001, and unlined J97) dates to the mid-1900s and became the crossover piece into fashion. Pre-1990s examples have a deeper corduroy collar, Union Made labels and Talon or Scovill zips.

Condition — lived-in

Graded lived-in: honest wear with light marks and softened canvas from real use. Structurally sound. Any notable mark is shown in the photos and video of this exact piece. Priced at $98 (was $139).

How it fits and how to wear it

Cut boxy and roomy to layer over a hoodie. Most buyers size down one from their usual jacket size for a modern fit, or keep true to size for the oversized look. Wears as outerwear over a hoodie or knit through autumn and winter. The boxy cut is the point — it was designed to layer, which is why it sits correctly over bulk rather than straining. Care

Wash cold and hang dry. Duck canvas softens with every wash but hot water and tumble drying will shrink it and stiffen the shell. Spot-clean where you can.
